What is Henna?
Please refer to our history
page or our scientific
analysis page. Henna is a shrub from the plant Lawsonia
Inermis. It holds a red dye that stains or prints on any
surface it comes in contact with, when appropriately mixed.
2) Why are henna tattoos so popular?
Henna tattoos are the newest trend. They allow the user
to enjoy a beautiful temporary henna tattoo without the
needle pain and the permanence of a "real" tattoo. They
are also relatively inexpensive to get. Our henna tattoo
bottle can do up to 25 medium size designs.
3) How long will the henna tattoo last?
It will last anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks depending on your
body temperature level, where the henna is applied, and
how often you wash the hennaed area. The more you wash
your henna tattoo the faster it will fade away. You can
redo-it over to make it darker. However, the henna tattoo
area won't take more than 4 to 5 times over. Nature's
way to say enough!
4) How can I do my own henna tattoo if I am not artistic?
Henna tattoos are very easy to do. You can use a stencil
to help you at first. You will quickly find out how fun
it is to create any image you want. Just trust the artist
in you! Check out the Fun stuff
pages for some henna designs samples that may inspire
you.
5) How long should I leave the paste on my skin?
You can peel off the paste as soon as it dries. This can
be anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. However, the earlier you
take the paste off the lighter your henna tattoo will
be. We recommend that you leave the henna paste for at
least 3 hours in order to get a dark and long lasting
henna tattoo. Look into Best Results in our Usage
page.
6) Do you have black henna?
No. Tattoo-Me Henna does not use black henna. In fact,
there is no such thing as black henna. Black henna has
a chemical component called PPD. This chemical (P-Phenylenediamine)
may cause an allergic reaction on the skin of many people.
If you'd like to read more about reactions to PPD related
allergies, go
here. We do not use any chemicals in our products.
We only use organic, 100% natural henna powder, which
does not penetrate under your epidermis. You should always
ask the henna artist what is in his/her paste prior to
purchasing a henna tattoo.
You can reach a dark brown-to-black color henna tattoo
by re-applying henna twice over the same design.
We offer Tattoo-Me BodyPaint
for those who would like a colored temporary tattoo. Often
referred to as "colored Henna",
our body paints are all body & hair safe and do not
include any chemicals or ingredients not approved for
usage on skin.
7) What color is henna? What color does the tattoo
come out to? Are there any other colors to henna?
A natural henna tattoo is copper-orange to redish-brown.
A tattoo will start orange and then darken within the
first 24-48 hours. There are no other natural colors to
a henna tattoo. We do not use colors because the only
way to obtain them is by adding chemicals that dye the
henna. We do not recommend colored henna. Apply vaseline
or baby oil onto henna tattooed area to protect it from
water contact, especially during the first 48 hours. This
will prevent your henna tattoo to fade before reaching
its darkerst color.
8) Can henna be used for hair?
Yes. Henna has first been used to nourish and dye hair.
It is the only 100% natural hair dye. It also works as
a very good conditioner. The dyed hair with henna gives
a red to brown color tone depending on your original/natural
hair color. We recommend that you first perform a strand
test before you apply it on the entire head. Tattoo-Me
Henna offers the finest henna powder you can use to dye
your hair with, and the newest henna for hair product:
Henna paste mixed for your hair! Check out our henna
